Middle School

This program has the same focus as the standard instructional clinics.  It runs Monday through Thursday every week in January and February with Mondays typically being at Crystal Mountain and Tuesday through Thursday at Hickory Hills.  The kids take a bus directly from East or West Middle School to the ski hills.  One race per week may be in lieu of training.

These kids must have their own helmet, skis, poles and boots.

Some additional expenses for this program include:  a season pass to Crystal and Hickory, bus transportation and a daily pass to the various venues where races take place (Boyne, Nubs and Holiday).  All costs and tickets will all be compiled and purchased by the Middle School Program Coordinators, who will let parents know one lump sum that will cover everything listed above (except for Hickory, which will be handled separately by each individual family).

Your child will also need pole guards and a mouth guard.  Once they are 80 pounds they will need shin guards as well.  This is for safety reasons when training or racing Slalom (not needed for Giant Slalom, but all kids will train and race for both).  They also have to have a helmet that has hard covered ears (not soft), as a mouth guard will only fit on this type of helmet and it is safer anyway.  All of these items can be purchased at local ski shops or online.  Some children use different skis for Slalom and Giant Slalom, but this is optional.

These children are encouraged to participate in Sunday races at Hickory, as this allows them to qualify for various regional ski invitationals against other clubs.  They would also be invited to the end of season Awards Day, featuring trophies, ribbons and festivities.  Separate Sunday Race registration required.
